FAQ

Questions owners ask.

What approvals does a new auto repair garage need in Ontario?

The zoning must permit vehicle repair at the address. The building permit covers ventilation, fire separations and drainage. Municipal sewer by-laws require an oil interceptor, spray booths need an air approval from Ontario's Ministry of the Environment, and some municipalities, including Toronto, license repair shops.

Does an auto repair shop need an oil interceptor?

Yes. Toronto's Sewers By-law requires one at every premises where motor vehicles are repaired, lubricated or maintained and connected to a sewer. Other GTA municipalities have similar sewer-use rules. We route every service-bay drain through it.

What slab does a vehicle lift need?

Lift manufacturers set a minimum concrete thickness and strength for their anchors. Truck lifts need more. We design the slab to the heaviest lift and vehicle you plan to service, and a structural engineer signs off before anchors go in.

Does a collision shop spray booth need environmental approval?

Yes. Spray booths discharge to air, so they need an air approval from Ontario's Ministry of the Environment. We build the booth room, exhaust stack and fire protection to that approval.
